Al DFF20 si sono iscritti 1.155 cortometraggi provenienti da 74 nazioni, testimonianza di una rete mondiale che attraversa i cinque continenti. Film arrivati anche da paesi vincolati da embarghi economici e politici (Iran, Russia, Venezuela) o da nazioni che non sono nemmeno riconosciute, come il Kurdistan e la Palestina, dimostrando che la voce del cinema trova sempre il modo di emergere.

Dopo un’attenta selezione, la direzione artistica ha scelto 15 opere nella Selezione Ufficiale, 15 nella sezione Extralarge e 5 nella DOC10, oltre alle 10 animazioni finaliste e al ritorno della sezione Visti da Vicino, dedicata agli autori della provincia di Frosinone.

Con la cerimonia di chiusura, la XX edizione ha celebrato i suoi vincitori, riconoscendo opere che si sono fatte notare per la loro originalità, forza espressiva e qualità tecnica.

Infine, nel corso della giornata conclusiva, il pubblico in sala ha scelto, tra le quattro opere in concorso nella sezione Visti da Vicino (dedicata a registi emergenti del territorio) Omoiyari di Gianmarco Cipolla.

Con questa 20esima edizione, il DFF si conferma come un punto di riferimento per il cinema breve nazionale e internazionale, un luogo in cui le storie si intrecciano e generano nuove connessioni.

DFF20: the winners

DFF20 counts 1,155 short films from 74 nations, a clear sign of a global network that spans across all five continents, including countries subject to economic and political bans (Iran, Russia, Venezuela) and stateless nations such as Kurdistan and Palestine. This is proof that the voice of cinema always finds a way to be heard.

After careful consideration, the Artistic Directors selected fifteen short films for the Official Selection, fifteen for the Extralarge section and five for DOC10, along with ten animations and the comeback of the category Visti da Vicino (Seen up Close), dedicated to filmmakers from the province of Frosinone.

With the closing ceremony, the twentieth edition honored the works that stood out the most for their originality, expressive power and technical quality:

And the audience has spoken! On the festival’s final day, Omoiyari by Gianmarco Cipolla triumphed in the Visti da Vicino category, winning over the crowd among four short films by emerging local filmmakers.

This twentieth edition confirms DFF as one of the institutions of the national and international short film scene, a space where stories intertwine and new connections take shape.

Il DFF torna per la sua 20esima edizione. Il tema di quest’anno, “Connessioni”, guiderà le serate del Dream Cinema di Frosinone. Verranno ospitati artisti e professionisti che, attraverso l’arte e la creatività, promuoveranno il dialogo e la riflessione.

Lunedì 22 settembre, accoglieremo Claudius Pratsch e gli studenti di Architettura dell’Università di Brema, che condivideranno la loro esperienza nel “connettere i borghi europei attraverso il sapere” con il progetto “Arnara 2030”. Claudius Pratsch è un architetto, docente e fotografo che ha costruito un percorso professionale e artistico profondamente legato al concetto di connessione.

Nella stessa giornata, avremo il piacere di incontrare un artista del nostro territorio, Andrea Rampini. Nato in provincia di Frosinone, Andrea si è formato a Milano specializzandosi in suono per il cinema, per poi lavorare per importanti realtà come Sky. Con il suo primo cortometraggio, “Bolle”, ha già ottenuto importanti riconoscimenti in numerosi festival. Al DFF presenterà “L’Incredibile Storia di Paolo Riva”.

Martedì 23 settembre il festival si concentrerà su una profonda riflessione su memoria e impegno civile, con la presenza del regista e fotografo Adriano Natale. Nato a Napoli, Natale ha costruito una carriera che lo ha portato a esplorare, attraverso il cinema e la fotografia, potenti legami sociali e culturali, dai ritratti in Argentina ai reportage sulle donne. La sua storia professionale, che unisce la sua formazione a Roma e la sua esperienza internazionale, si riflette nel suo lavoro più recente. Sarà con noi per presentare il documentario “Tre Minuti. La storia di Silvia Ruotolo”, un progetto co-diretto e realizzato in collaborazione con Libera Contro le Mafie.

Mercoledì 24, l’incontro sarà con Giuseppe Marco Albano, giovane regista e sceneggiatore, che ci mostrerà il suo documentario “The School of Life”. Dopo aver conquistato il David di Donatello per il suo cortometraggio “Thriller”, Albano si è distinto per la sua capacità di narrare storie complesse e di indagare l’animo umano.

Giovedì 25 sarà con noi Veronika Pokoptceva, regista del doc in concorso “Prima. Elisa Carrillo Cabrera”. Con le sue radici a San Pietroburgo e la sua formazione a Berlino, Veronika ha sviluppato un linguaggio unico che esplora i temi dell’identità, dell’appartenenza e dei legami familiari.

Venerdì 26, sarà la volta di Midia Kiasat, regista del cortometraggio “fà-me”. Originario dell’Iran ma formatosi in Italia, Kiasat porta con sé uno sguardo unico che si concentra sul rapporto tra l’uomo e gli spazi urbani e domestici. I suoi film esplorano con sensibilità temi di solitudine, difficoltà di comunicazione e la perdita delle proprie radici, offrendo una riflessione profonda sulle fragili connessioni che si instaurano (o si perdono) nella vita di ogni giorno.

Successivamente, avremo il piacere di accogliere il collettivo di ANIMARap, un progetto che incarna perfettamente lo spirito del nostro festival. Con noi ci saranno Addivvi, Carolina Mancini, Ernesto Conti e Ludovica Santoni per presentare l’output del loro percorso laboratoriale integrato, “Tempesta / Alone in the Dark”. Questo progetto, che unisce la ricerca artistica e l’impegno sociale, ha saputo tessere una fitta rete di connessioni all’interno di un contesto complesso come la Casa Circondariale femminile di Pesaro.

Ospite dopo ospite, tra incontri e interviste, arriveremo alla serata di chiusura, sabato 27 settembre. La serata sarà animata dalla presenza del collettivo Jazz Lab, che con la sua musica celebrerà la connessione universale tra le persone. L’ultimo incontro sarà con Lorenzo Fabian Cerroni, che ci parlerà del suo documentario “Voci di Campo”. Con questo film, Cerroni dimostra come la sua passione per il cinema, sviluppata all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Frosinone, e il suo profondo legame con il Ceccano Rugby, si traducano in un’opera che celebra lo sport non solo come competizione, ma come un’autentica rete di relazioni umane e di comunità.

Al termine di questa giornata e della 20esima edizione del DFF, non mancherà naturalmente la tradizionale cerimonia di premiazione con altre sorprese. Vi aspettiamo!

DFF20 and its guests: a network of connections at the Dream Cinema in Frosinone

DFF is back for its twentieth edition and this year the theme will be Connections. The Dream Cinema in Frosinone will host a number of artists and professionals who will use art and creativity to foster conversations and reflections.  

On Monday 22nd September, we will welcome Claudius Pratsch and a number of Architecture students from the University of Brema who will discuss their experience connecting European villages through knowledge in the project “Arnara 2030”. Claudius Pratsch is an architect, professor and photographer who has built an extensive part of his career as a professional and artist around the theme of connections. 

On the same day, we will have the opportunity to introduce local artist Andrea Rampini. Born in Frosinone, Andrea studied sound design in Milan and has worked for large companies such as Sky. His first short film, Bolle, has already been nominated for awards in several festivals. He will present his latest project L’Incredibile Storia di Paolo Riva. 

The focus of Tuesday 23rd September will be remembrance and civic engagement with the contribution of director and photographer Adriano Natale. Born in Naples, Natale has dedicated his career to exploring important social and cultural phenomena through cinema and photography. These included extensive reports from Argentina and on the history of women. His career, which is equally marked by his education in Rome and his international travels, is perfectly summarised in his latest work, the documentary Tre Minuti: La Storia di Silvia Ruotolo, a project written and directed in cooperation with Libera, an Italian association against mafias. 

On Wednesday 24th, Giuseppe Marco Albano, young director and screenwriter, will present his documentary The School of Life. After winning the David di Donatello award for his short film Thriller, Albano has become known for his ability to narrate complex stories and explore the different aspects of human nature. 

Thursday 25th we will be joined by Veronika Pokoptceva, director of the short film in competition Prima. Elisa Carrillo Cabrera. Born in St. Petersburg, Veronika studied in Berlin where she found her voice by exploring themes such as identity, belonging and family.

On Friday 26th Midia Kiasat, director of short film fà-me will take the stage. Originally from Iran, Kiasat studied in Italy and focuses his works on the relationship between man and urban and domestic environments. His works delicately explore themes such as loneliness, difficulties in communication and loss of identity, and are an opportunity to reflect on the fragility of the connections that are made (or lost) in everyday life. 

We will also have the opportunity to welcome artists from ANIMARap, a project that truly reflects the values of our Festival. We will be joined by Addivvi, Carolina Mancini, Ernesto Conti and Ludovica Santoni who will present the results of their workshop Tempesta/Alone in the Dark. This project blends art and social engagement in an effort to build a strong network of connections in the complex reality of Pesaro Women’s Correctional Facility. 

Exploring all these connections through panels and interviews will finally take us to the award ceremony of Saturday 27th September. The evening will come alive with the sounds of the Jazz Lab collective, whose music will celebrate the universal connection between people. The final event will feature Lorenzo Fabian Cerroni, who will present his documentary Voci di Campo. In this film, Cerroni combines his passion for cinema – developed at the Academy of Fine Arts in Frosinone – with his strong connection to Ceccano Rugby. The result is a work that celebrates sport not just as competition, but as a powerful network of human relationships and community.

As the 20th edition of DFF comes to a close, we’ll wrap up the day with the traditional awards ceremony and a few unexpected surprises. Don’t miss it!
